Anti Slam

The Flash Residency Project is a re-imagining of the artist residency, through short time frames (1 hour). Local artists of varying disciplines are invited to inhabit and create in a two-meter transparent cube, in a public space. Literally an “open studio” the structure enables passer-by to see and engage with the artist while they work. As the last residency is finished, all of the pieces are presented together for a group show that ends with the disassembly of the structure.

The Flash Residency project began as a public art commission by BEAM for the Wakefield Playful City festival in Autumn 2014. It was created in collaboration with ArtPlace. Believing passionately both in creating opportunities for emerging artists and also in community engagement, The Flash Residency Project was created as a way to respond to both.
